Energy Storage and Green Agriculture: 20ft BESS for Belgium Chicken Farms

As the world’s attention to sustainable development and clean energy continues to increase, the combination of distributed energy storage and green agriculture is gradually becoming an important trend. Installing an energy storage system not only fits the negative electricity price policy promoted by the local government but also makes full use of the energy storage subsidy policy to help modern agriculture transform towards green, low-carbon and sustainable development.

A chicken farm in Belgium has installed a photovoltaic system that can provide part of the electricity for its daily operations. However, since there are many mechanized equipment in the chicken farm, the stability of the power supply is crucial. Any long-term power outage will have an adverse effect on the normal operation of the equipment and the breeding process, thus threatening the production efficiency and economic benefits of the chicken farm. Therefore, the customer decided to further improve its energy management capabilities and planned to install an energy storage system to achieve a more reliable and efficient power supply.

Solar battery storage system solution

SCU designed a 20ft energy storage container for it, with a battery capacity of 645kWh, a PCS power of 300kW, and a photovoltaic power of 50kWh. The container energy storage system is compact in design and easy to install, adapting to the special environment of the chicken farm, ensuring the safe and stable operation of the system.

The distributed solar energy storage solution performed excellently in this project. The system perfectly combines photovoltaic power generation with energy storage, so that excess electricity during the day can be stored when electricity prices are low and used during peak hours. The flexible power management method of the energy storage system not only helps chicken farms effectively reduce electricity bills, but also greatly reduces dependence on the power grid, ensuring the continuity and stability of production.

The combination of energy storage and green agriculture has broad prospects. By using energy storage systems, agricultural production can more efficiently manage and use renewable energy to ensure the stability of power supply, especially in unstable or remote areas, which is crucial to ensure the continuous operation of farm equipment and reduce losses caused by power outages. In addition, energy storage systems can help farms store electricity when electricity prices are low and use it when electricity prices are high, thereby reducing energy costs, improving energy utilization efficiency, and promoting agriculture to develop in a more environmentally friendly and sustainable direction.
