Background
In Nigeria, the problems of an unstable power grid and frequent power outages have long restricted the development of the supermarket industry. Previously, SCU has successfully deployed the GRES series energy storage system for a local school, significantly improving the reliability and sustainability of electricity use on campus. This time, the local supermarket has installed a solar power generation system, but due to the lack of energy storage support, the excess electricity during the day cannot be effectively used, and it still needs to rely on expensive and unstable city electricity at night and in rainy weather.

Solution: Off-grid solar battery storage system
SCU customized the BRES series 10ft energy storage container for the supermarket, which forms an off-grid solar storage integrated solution with the existing solar system:
- 10ft energy storage container: equipped with 300kW PCS and 645kWh high energy density lithium-ion battery pack, modular design facilitates rapid on-site deployment;
- All-weather self-generation and self-use: solar generation directly meets load demand during the day, and excess power is automatically stored in energy storage;
- Off-grid operation mode: the system prioritizes solar during the day, and excess power is stored in energy storage; at night and when solar is insufficient, the energy storage container switches to discharge to provide continuous and stable power for the supermarket;
- Intelligent EMS dispatching: integrated energy management system, real-time monitoring of solar power generation, energy storage status and load demand, automatic switching of working modes, and maximization of “self-generation and self-use”.

Implementation results
100% off-grid power supply
Completely get rid of the dependence on generators and city electricity, and the supermarket can operate around the clock without power outages;
Significantly reduced costs
The self-use rate of solar power generation has increased to 95%, fuel and maintenance costs are almost zero, and monthly energy expenses have been reduced by more than 60%;
Environmental protection and community benefits
After the generator operation is cancelled, noise and exhaust emissions are zero, which improves the living environment of customers and surrounding residents.

Customer evaluation
The supermarket operation team is very satisfied with SCU’s pure off-grid solar storage solution, calling it a “true zero-carbon, zero-operation and maintenance” power supply mode. In the future, they plan to promote the solution in more stores and community service points and explore diversified applications such as solar storage microgrids and energy storage + charging piles with SCU to continuously promote the development of local green energy.
